I think that those in the limbo land of eternal hold while trying to straighten out E72 snarls need some new music. Apparently it's not GD. It's some kind of muzak. Terrible!

I propose the following, which would seem to fit the mood of Kafkaesque black-humor insanity:

(I actually love it. Wait until at least the singing, about halfway through, if you want to scream and hang up.)

My kid suggested a version of Dire Wolf with the lines "don't bankrupt me."

Any other suggestions?

Nice call on the Pere Ubu. That would have been far more palatable than what they were playing. The bad background music was only part of the waiting hell, the oft-repeated and painfully slowed down 'voice of apologies and options while you wait' sounded like Lurch from the Addams' family waiting for his laxatives to kick in . . . you rang? . . . mmmrrrrrhhhhggghhhhggg (or whatever onomatopoetic spelling you prefer).

Other options - The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain's cover of either 'MacArthur's Park' or 'Should I Stay or Should I Go?', Dave Mason w/ Traffic 'Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave', Muddy Waters' 'Long Distance Call', the The Be Good Tanyas' cover of 'When Doves Cry' ("How can u just leave me standing? / Alone in a world that's so cold? (So cold) / Maybe I'm just 2 demanding ..."), The entire Yat-Kha album 'Recovers', anything by David Moss or several pieces by Yma Sumac.

. . . or on a much lighter note, The Who's 'Happy Jack', or Roger Ruskin-Spear's version of 'Make Yourself A Happiness Pie' - either one would have left me in a much better mood.

William Shatner would have been a walk in the park compared to Lurch and the lame lounged-out grooves they were having us suffer through.

Hey AR, does any Tuvan music get heard or played out your way? Are you familiar with Yat-Kha? Here's a track from their covers album 'Recovers':

Tom Waits is Tuvan? That's wild. No, I hadn't heard them. Funny thing is we watched a segment on Mongolian throat singers just last night on CNN Int'l. But the anchors kept rolling their eyes and making comments, so we couldn't really make out the overtones. Tibetan monks do a similar throat singing when they chant.

Ha--excellent selection there, DP; I can only imagine the irritation, and the songs that could be played...so many to choose from, but an in your face, exceptionally loud Clash tune ("tease, tease, tease...when I am on my knees...should I stay or should I go now?") seems unlikely to be topped.

After calling back several times, and holding on, and suffering through their aural waterboarding of my senses - and psyche - that Clash song kept popping back into my head each time Lurch came back on with his spiel. I ended up 'staying' and - unlike the experiences others have voiced here -when they finally picked up, I felt my questions and concerns were dealt with in a professional and satisfying manner considering the myriad of 'issues' these folks are dealing with. When I first ordered my box, I thought if it came before next April, that would be cool - so, even with waiting another week, all is good. Hope all is good with you, WT, these days.

Hanging in there, DP; thanks. Could use some rain, however. At least I don't have to wait on a trunk or whatever it is...

;)

[I'd be the sort that would be entirely bent out of joint over the "non-arrival" issue, given how long I'd waited. My anal retentive nature just doesn't cope with delays, etc., esp if I've really got my hopes up having heard others were having success, etc. Your patience/outlook is a virture, one that I lack. Hope you are well, and that our friend Rob, MIA of late, is well too {your "duckpond" handle always makes me think of him}...and back with us when he has the time/inclination. Maybe all that CREAM drivel of mine finally wore thin? He was always a fan of the Clash, however.]

Yea, what's with MIA Rob? I hope his hiatus from the forum is a short one. His last go round with the troll franchise was likely fairly exhaustive, judging by the bits I saw. It'd be nice to see his wit and wisdom return to these parts.

OMG - "Cleveland's own" Pere Ubu!

It's funny how quickly you get to them when listing famous Cleveland bands.
